Amazing Space: How a community garden grows
The Oakhurst Community Garden in Decatur began in 1996 when resident Louise Jackson discovered children were vandalizing her garden. She and former Oakhurst director Sally Wylde decided to reach out to the children and teach them about nature. A neighbor bought a half-acre and leased it to the nonprofit group, Oakhurst Community Garden Project. Children of all ages still are seen in the garden.
