By JULIE HAIRSTON: A pair of ancient live oaks gracefully draped in Spanish moss frame the front of the waterfront estate owned by Fran and Barney Whitaker of Atlanta. The home sits on 1.2 acres facing the sound, the largest contiguous waterfront parcel on St. Simons Island. It was built in 1929 by Franklin Dunwoody Aiken, a Brunswick banker and businessman. The home remained in the Aiken family until the early 1990s, when it was purchased by Fran Whitaker's mother.
